Become an Abortion Doula!

The Abortion Doula Project is seeking smart, awesome, caring women to be part of an amazing program in New York City!

What is an abortion doula?
An abortion doula is a woman who provides compassionate, continuous support for a person who is having an abortion. Abortion doulas use the same model of care as birth doulas, supporting a woman before, during and after her abortion. To learn a little more about doulas and abortion doulas, check out this article by Miriam Perez who has helped us get the NYC Abortion Doula Project off the ground.

The group is currently working on their website. In the meantime, please contact Mary at MaryM at protectchoice.org or Lauren at LaurenM at protectchoice.org.

Abortion Film Screenings with the Director!

See two groundbreaking feminist documentaries about abortion on an USA/Canada tour in August 2008! Both films are outstanding documents in their own right, but together provide an incredible evening of analysis and information about one of the most divisive issues of our time.

Abortion Democracy: Poland/South Africa (50 min, English and Polish with English Subtitles), directed by Sarah Diehl of Berlin, Germany, contrasts the differences in abortion policies in South Africa and Poland regarding abortion laws and their impact on the lives of women.

The Coat Hanger Project (50 minutes, English) directed by Angie Young, is about abortion and the current state of the pro-choice movement 35 years after Roe vs. Wade.

The Directors will be available afterwards for Q and A!
